Kenedy is a small town, just 60 miles southeast of San Antonio, Texas. The pets there get NO exposure for rescue or adoption other than this website and a Facebook page. Follow our Facebook page for important messages about responsible and proper pet care. KCHO has been working hard to place dogs in safe rescues and shelters, and has had great success. Before our organization, this small rural town shelter had no resources, and the live release rate was typically 5% out of 275 dogs per year. Standard hold time is 72 hours. The live release rate has now increased to 99%.

Rescue Groups
RELEASE TO RESCUE GROUPS IS DESPERATELY NEEDED. The pet will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered and heartworm tested at no cost to the rescue. We can also help with transport! Rescue groups can email [email protected].
Make a Donation
We are on the front line in the battle to save the animals of Karnes County. We receive no support from any government agency within our community, so we are totally reliant upon your donation. Adoption fees paid to other rescues that we sent animals to keep those funds for their own organizations. We are a 501(c)3, so your gift is TAX DEDUCTIBLE! Become a supporter today!

Our Mission
The mission of the Karnes County Humane Organization (KCHO) is to assist Karnes County animal control facilities and the local community members in their efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for the sick, abused, abandoned and homeless animals that come into their care and to increase pet adoption and rescue. To that end, we will provide funding for routine and emergency veterinary services, fostering, rescue networking, and transport to rescue groups and no kill shelters for the pets in need. We are also committed to promoting spay and neuter, as well as, humane education in order to reduce the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals in Karnes County and the surrounding area.
